1st Annual OADH™ In The Books

For some this past weekend was a family reunion. For others it was joining a family. It was an overall awesome great time. Those of us that have attended the One Arm Dove Hunt in the past consider the other amputees, their families and many Olney residents as our extended family.

Many of the previous One Arm Dove Hunt family and many more of our OADH™ new family embraced the Olney Amputee Dove Hunt’s 1st Annual event.

By The Numbers:

Fed 300+ people Friday Night
30 Amputees and their families
5-6 Amputees returning after a long absence
2 First Time Amputees

Olney, TX

In the 43 years of the prior event, I can’t remember ever having such a large turnout for Friday Night dinner, entertainment, auction and door prizes. Most importantly, there was a tribute to the Two Jacks with a number of speakers, including their children and recognition for Gene Alexander and Jim McCarson. These two gentlemen are the only two individuals to attend all 43 years. And they were there to kick off the new OADH™.

I was at the registration table Friday evening. Everyone that walked in the door put contributions into the bucket. Many t-shirts and hats were purchased. I was fortunate to get to speak to many people. Everyone of them told me how glad they were that someone had continued the hunt. They expressed how much it means to the town of Olney, Tx.

As long as we can, Gene Alexander and I will be in Olney, TX every year for the Olney Amputee Dove Hunt.
